Þórir has extensive experience in plastic surgery and is a specialist doctor at the Plastic Surgery Department of Landspítali University Hospital and at the Breast Surgery Department of Landspítali University Hospital. He is also a lecturer in plastic surgery at the University of Iceland.
After completing specialist training at the Akademíska sjúkrahúsið í Sweden in 2004, he continued to work there as a specialist. He underwent further postgraduate studies in microscopic surgery at the prestigious Chang Gung Medical Hospital in Taiwan from 2006 to 2007. He was then head of the plastic surgery department at the Academic Hospital until 2013. During those years he also worked partly at the Art Clinic in beauty surgery and at the Ersta Hospital in Stockholm on abdominal and pelvic floor reconstruction after larger excision procedures. In 2013 he founded Nordic Plastic Surgery and worked as a consultant and teaching, especially in breast reconstruction at the University Hospital of Stavanger, Trondheim and Akershus Hospital in Oslo. From 2015 to 2018, he was Chief Medical Officer at Riskhospitalet in Oslo. He has been working full-time at the hospital since 2019.
He has extensive experience in breast surgery, enlargement, reduction, fat filling, pad removal and performs all types of breast reconstruction. He has extensive experience in facial surgery and is responsible for plastic surgery on the adult face at the National Hospital. He has been treating patients with botox for about two decades. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and teaches plastic surgery at Landspítali University Hospital.
